The Cold Link Africa is a bimonthly newspaper focusing on all aspects of refrigeration, distributed to the entire South African refrigeration industry. It is a product of Interact Media Defined, one of South Africa’s leading multi-media magazine publishers. The first edition of the Cold Link (Africa) was published 30 years ago. The newspaper covers the cold chain from producer to consumer, and includes regular features, industry news, global events as well as policies and regulations. As such, it is of interest to all consumers, suppliers and contractors in the refrigeration industry. The readership of The Cold Link Africa made evident that the South African refrigeration industry requires coordination between all stakeholders of the cold chain. This gave birth to the South African Refrigeration Distribution Association (SARDA) in 1990. …

Introduced by Shecco in 2009, the Natural Voice is a global statement open to industry, associations, non-profit organizations and individuals supporting the potential of natural refrigerants in replacing potent greenhouse gases. At present, the Natural Voice has 109 signatories from a range of sectors and industries. The statement will be presented to national governments and international climate negotiators in the near future to build the basis for developing natural refrigerant initiatives around the world. The Natural Voice demands national governments to remove (inter)national trade barriers and to revise safety standards, codes and legislation that restrict the use of natural refrigerants without merit. Furthermore, it calls upon national governments to provide (non-) financial support for the research and promotion of natural refrigerants, and to facilitate the technology transfer from developed to developing countries. …

SuperSmart is an EU-wide project advancing the use of more energy efficient refrigeration, heating and cooling appliances in Europe’s supermarkets by addressing all stakeholders involved in driving the uptake of more climate-friendly food retail stores. SuperSmart has 3 main objectives: to remove non-technological barriers to efficient heating & cooling in the EU food retails sector, training to raise the expertise level for energy-friendly supermarkets among (non-) technical staff, and to support the introduction of a new EU Ecolabel for food retails stores. The project is funded by the EU under the Horizon 220 Innovation Framework Programme. The consortium consists of 9 European partners from the fields of research, analysis, training, dissemination and network-building. …

Jossineide Oliveira and Silva - educator, consultant and entrepreneur - is one of the pioneer woman in the refrigeration field in Brazil. She is also the first female instructor in Porto Velho to teach the course “Good Practices Training on Air Conditioning Systems”, which is coordinated by the Brazilian Environmental Ministry and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). Herlin Herlianika - a professional in the RAC sector - works as a technical expert at the successful Green Chillers NAMA project in Indonesia, a project funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and implemented by GIZ Proklima in cooperation with the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. With the GCI newsletter team, she looked back at her impressive career and shared some thoughts about women in the RAC sector.
