Meilleures pratiquesProject: Room air-conditioner conversion project
Between 2008 and 2013, GIZ Proklima, on behalf of the German Environmental Ministry, supported the Indian company Godrej & Boyce to introduce hydrocarbon-driven (R290) split and room air conditioners to the Indian Market. Godrej & Boyce have installed a production line for R290 ACs while considering the necessary safety procedures to counter the risks arising from flammable hydrocarbon-based technology. Product certification and technician training are also a focus of the project. The new ACs have been designed according to European safety standards and have the highest energy efficiency in their class, hereby saving electricity costs and reducing indirect emissions. Each production line produces around 180,000 HCFC-free, energy efficient units annually. The direct and indirect emissions saved by these units, compared to earlier models using F-gases, amount to around 1 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent. …
Meilleures pratiquesProduct: India’s first R290 air conditioner
Since developing India’s first commercially available hydrocarbon (R290) air conditioner in 2012 in collaboration with GIZ and the Indian government, Godrej & Boyce have sold over 100,000 air conditioning units and now boast an annual production capacity of 180,000 units. Given the lack of national standards for natural refrigerants in India, Godrej & Boyce filled a market gap when developing the country’s first R290 air conditioning technology. The family business received an investment grant from the German Environment Ministry’s International Climate Initiative (IKI). The green technology was designed to find a balance between electricity consumption and environmental impact. With an Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of 3.9, the R290 ACs save up to 10% energy compared to five-star air-conditioners. Godrej & Boyce now hold a 13% market share in the five-star AC market in India, making it the third largest shareholder. Current models are restricted by a hydrocarbon charge size limit of 350 grams and 12,000-18,000 British thermal units, but Godrej & Boyce is seeking technological support from other manufacturers to achieve higher capacities. …
MembreGlaciem Cooling Technologies
Glaciem Cooling is a technology based manufacture specialising in innovative natural solutions for the commercial and industrial refrigeration sectors. Glaciem Cooling believes that in the long term the pressure of rising electricity costs and the additional requirement to reduce environmentally harmful refrigerants will mean the HVAC&R will need to look at innovative solutions in natural refrigerants such as Thermal Energy Storage, CO2 and Ammonia. They offer a range of products coupled with a unique range of consulting, engineering, training and commissioning services that will ensure a successful transition to natural refrigerant alternatives. Glaciem Cooling’s team works with refrigeration service and installation businesses helping them with the design and engineering of natural refrigerant technologies and then supplying the key capital equipment. Glaciem Cooling has over 50 years’ experience in the design, installation and operation of commercial and industrial refrigeration. …
Meilleures pratiquesSuccess story: Parilla Potato Cold Storage Facility
In 2012/2013, Glaciem Cooling Technologies in collaboration with the University SA Barbara Hardy Institute and Alltech Refrigeration launched the Parilla Potato Project. Parilla Potatoes is a large, refrigerated storage facility located in South Australia. The basis for the design of the Parilla Potato Project is a secondary refrigeration system that uses a critically charged ammonia chiller as the primary refrigerant and Dynalene HC30 as a secondary refrigerant. Moreover, the design also includes the use of a Thermal Storage System using Phase Change Material (PCM). The PCM is cooled by the primary ammonia plant overnight using off peak electricity, and the Dynalene uses the thermal storage of the PCM to provide refrigeration during peak operating hours. In 2014, the system won the AIRAH Best HVAC&R Retrofit/Upgrade award. …
MembreGCM - German Chiller Manufacturer
Manufacturer of reliable and flexible highly efficient chiller solutions The German Chiller Manufacturer (GCM) designs and develops highly energy efficient chillers using natural refrigerants. Due to the EU Regulation No. 517/2014 and the phase out of F-gases within the EU, GCM focusses on manufacturing systems using natural refrigerants– mainly R717 (ammonia). GCM stands for tailor made high quality systems and flexible design options to suit their clients’ specific needs. …
Meilleures pratiquesProduct: Air-cooled chiller
The GA-2 KO-1-N-200 is a highly efficient air-cooled chiller that produces cold water for industrial processes using the natural refrigerant ammonia (R717). By using high quality components and a natural refrigerant, the chiller achieves an energy efficiency ratio (EER) of 4.94. This in turn reduces the operating costs and increases the machine’s lifetime. Moreover, ammonia is characterized by a global warming potential (GWP) of 0, such that it is not affected by the F-Gas regulation and its phase down schedule. By choosing a system that runs on a natural refrigerant without global warming potential (GWP), the consumer is actively contributing to environmentally friendly cooling. Refrigerant: R717 Cooling capacity: 200 kW Energy efficiency rating: EER 4,94 …
Meilleures pratiquesProduct: 3-in-1 chiller
The chiller GS-1-KO-1-N-102-SP designed by the German Chiller Manufacturer (GCM) uses ammonia (R717) and combines three independently operating machines in one unit. The operator therefore profits from full redundancy; if one of the three machines fails, the remaining two continue to cool. The three machines comprising the GS-1-KO-1-N-102-SP are connected by a master control system, but each machine has its own control center for emergencies. By choosing a system that runs on a natural refrigerant without global warming potential (GWP), the consumer is actively contributing to environmentally friendly cooling. The use of R717 in combination with qualitatively high components ensures that the chiller system has an energy efficiency rating (EER) of 5.56. The investment into the environmentally friendly and economic cooling system was supported with a 20% grant of the total production costs by the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA). Furthermore, the GCM grants a five-year warranty for the cooling system with a maintenance contract upon purchase. Refrigerant: R717 Cooling capacity: 444 kW Energy efficiency rating: EER 5,56 …
Meilleures pratiquesSuccess story: All-in-one heating, cooling and air conditioning in retail giant Kaufland
Frigo-Consulting has installed an integral CO2 system in retail giant Kaufland’s new large-scale store in the suburbs of Germany, Berlin. The integral CO2 system is a lighthouse project, as it cools, heats and ventilates without needing additional energy. It uses waste heat produced during refrigeration to heat and ventilate the entire Kaufland building. 25-30% less energy is consumed compared to traditional installations, as well as a reduction of the CO2 footprint by 35-40%. The system can adapt to a range of operation needs, e.g. summer vs. winter temperature, working days vs. weekends, etc. Frigo-Consulting took the lead in the project engineering and provided a customized future oriented concept. Since the first installation in 2014, Frigo-Consulting has successfully engineered and commissioned several integral systems. …
