13.06.2022 News “Propane Club”: Impressions of the first Cool Training Webinars
After a forced two-year break, Proklima's Cool Trainings are back – online and on-site. In addition to our previous Cool Trainings in Maintal, Germany, an online Cool Training was launched. It is composed of self-learning material and live webinars. Two webinars for Spanish speakers were the first in the series in 2022.
MemberCool Up: Upscaling Sustainable Cooling
The Cool Up: Upscaling Sustainable Cooling programme promotes accelerated technological change in cooling demand reduction, and early implementation of the Kigali Amendment and Paris Agreement. Cool Up focuses on Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey as these countries are experiencing fast-growing demand for cooling, increasing final energy consumption, and structural challenges in the energy sector. They also have high potential to boost energy efficiency and increase the use of natural refrigerants in the cooling and refrigeration sector. The goal of the Cool Up programme is to create catalytic change within the refrigeration and air conditioning sector by reducing cooling demand, supporting the phase-down of hydrofluorocarbons, replacing and safely disposing inefficient cooling appliances and refrigerants, and improving cooling appliance operation, training, and awareness. Cool Up’s holistic approach addresses these issues across three themes: policy and regulatory support, development of business and financing models, and increased awareness and market uptake of sustainable cooling technologies. The approach is supplemented by implementation-focused partnerships and building hands-on capacity to enable local and regional stakeholders. Cool Up is led by Guidehouse Germany GmbH. The team includes Frankfurt School, ILK Dresden, Öko-Recherche, United Nations Development Programme, Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Istanbul Aydin University, Integrated Development Group, Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation, and Royal Scientific Society. Cool Up is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) supports this initiative on the basis of a decision adopted by the German Bundestag. …
MemberSolar Polar Limited
Solar Polar designs and makes solar thermal technology including solar cooling, solar heating and cooking. 1.5 Bn people worldwide live without grid electricity. At least half of them could benefit from an off-grid cooling system for uses such as medicines and food. This would have a massive socio-economic impact. In addition to this, we forecast that an average Mediterranean home using 4 kW of solar cooling would save approximately 13,000 kWh per year. This means saving €3,000 and 7 tonnes of CO2. Solar Polar solutions have a great potential in tackling these numbers, because it is affordable, modular and off-grid. …
Best practiceN2O/CO2 mixtures for applications below -50 °C
Together with a manufacturer of pharmaceutical freeze driers, a major independent compressor manufacturer and lubrication company, IKKU developed a unique refrigeration system for temperatures down to -80 °C based on the application of N2O/CO2 mixtures …
Best practiceOilfree Propane chiller
Using the latest oilfree turbo compressor technology developed by a Swiss project partner, the IKKU partnered with a German hydrocaron chiller manufacturer to develop oilfree propane chillers making hydrocarbon refrigeration systems even more environmentally friendly …
MemberKarlsruhe University of Applied Sciences
The campus of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences is located in the middle of the city and at the same time in the Hardtwald forest. This green environment of the university is also reflected in many of the university's activities. A key research area has been research on sustainable refrigeration and air conditioning at the Institute of Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning and Environmental Engineering. Our research has been focusing on the application of natural refrigerants since the early 1990s. Ammonia, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, water, air and ice slurry are what we love to work with. We would be proud to do research for or with you on any of these natural working fluids. …
