12.03.2021 Noticias Cool Talks: "Natural or no refrigerants are the only way we can ensure a future for all"
At shecco, Pilar Aleu and Ilana Koegelenberg both advocate for more climate-friendly cooling. We asked them about their motivation, the upcoming natural refrigerant tradeshow and why we need more women in the industry.
Buenas prácticasLiquid ice containers for refrigerated transport
Since 2016, Colruyt has been transporting its fresh products in self-developed refrigerated containers. The Liquid Ice Containers (LIC) keep the products cool with liquid ice and are 73% more climate-friendly than the classic refrigerated containers that use CO2. Colruyt has recently started to use even more eco-friendly liquid ice containers for the transport of frozen products to the shops. Liquid ice is a frozen but liquid mixture of water and ethanol or salt. The refrigerant with minuscule grains of ice has a much lower climate impact than the current alternatives. …
Buenas prácticasPropane compact chillers for commercial cooling
Colruyt Group choose propane compact chillers as the standard solution for commercial cooling in its' food shops in Belgium and Luxembourg. Cold brine (MPG) is used to distribute cold to the refrigerated cabinets and the cold rooms. The condenser is being cooled with the same MPG, so the heat is released outside with drycoolers or the waste heat is used to heat the shop. This layout allows for a very low refrigerant content of under 4,3 kg. The ventilated enclosure design means that no ATEX zoning exists outside the chiller. The connections are made with fast release flexible couplings, thus allowing redundancy and quick exchange of a chiller when it is broken. This reduces pressure on the internal maintenance team, which add to the safety of the solution. …
01.11.2016 Noticias NAMA-Training: Caribbean island states and making climate friendly cooling pay off and financeable
St. Kitts & Nevis - More than 50 policy makers from 15 Caribbean Islands came together in September to learn about the relevance of the cooling sector to the global environment and energy systems. The participants were made up of officials from government and agencies responsible for energy and finance, project owners and developers, as well as service providers and investors of energy projects.
01.11.2016 Noticias GCI-Workshop: Implementing technologies with natural refrigerants in developing countries
Edinburgh - On occasion of the 12th Gustav Lorentzen Working Fluids Conference (August 21st to 24th 2016), the Green Cooling Initiative (GCI) held a workshop on technical barriers to the implementation of natural refrigerants (NR) in developing countries. Several projects and activities were described, covering widespread application of R290 in residential and commercial ACs, HC in commercial refrigeration and R290 in large cold rooms.
01.11.2016 Noticias Solar cooling in Jordan: Two new solar cooling systems were commissioned in Amman
Amman - In October 2016, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) successfully commissioned the installation of two new solar Cooling Systems. The two solar systems were installed at the Irbid Chamber of Commerce and the Royal Culture Centre in Amman. Using solar energy, Jordan can cool buildings in a climate friendly manner.
01.04.2017 Noticias Ensuring the success of cold chains - new GIZ-Proklima study available
Research shows that an estimated 30% of global food production perishes in post-harvest losses. Rising temperatures, population growth and increased urbanization are magnifying the need for adequate cooling. A recent concept paper by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH examines the barriers and recommendations for food cold chains of fruit and vegetables, dairy, meat, and fish in developing countries.
01.04.2017 Noticias Installing solar cooling plants in Jordan: a practitioner’s handbook
As in most countries, Jordan`s demand for air conditioning is expected to double by 2030 in comparison to 2015. The increase is due to several factors such as a general increase in living standards or the generally increasing temperatures due to climate change. Solar thermal driven refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) is particularly attractive to high ambient temperature countries with a high rate of solar radiation.
01.04.2017 Noticias GIZ’s new guidance paper and infographic on advancing NDCs through RAC
Policymakers are guided in their efforts to address their country's RAC&F (RAC and foam) sector, and to include it in their nationally determined contributions (NDCs). It has been estimated that a reduction in the production and consumption of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) may provide between 6 and 10% of the total greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions by 2050.
01.04.2017 Noticias GIZ installs first CO2-Ammonia Cascade System in Mauritius
Since 2016 the Université de Mascareignes of Mauritius is providing training on CO2 as a natural refrigerant to contractors and students. The installation of a CO2-Ammonia plant is used to demonstrate the feasibility of climate-friendly, energy-efficient cooling technologies, and to advance the eradication of HFCs. As a small island developing state, Mauritius is bearing proportionally large hardships due to global warming.
