Buenas prácticasProject: A platform for sorption cooling
Founded in Berlin in March 2009, the Green Chiller Association for Sorption Cooling is a platform of research facilities and manufacturers that are on the cutting edge of sorption chiller technologies in German-speaking countries. The Association was established to promote and develop solar and thermally-driven cooling technologies on a wide scale. Around 60% of all European manufacturer of sorption chillers in the small and medium-scale cooling capacity range are represented on the platform. All members offer closed sorption technologies like absorption cooling (working pair’s water/lithium bromide and ammonia/water) and adsorption cooling (water/silica gel and water/zeolith). The Association promotes the following main objectives: promoting and developing of the solar and thermal cooling markets in Germany and Europe, demonstration of different applications, and development of design tools and standardization. …
Buenas prácticasTraining: Training courses for refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics
For over 5 years, the Department of Engineering of the Maldives Institute of Technology (MIT) has been offering various training courses for refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) technicians. The Department of Engineering offers several training courses for RAC technicians, addressing both apprentices and more advanced technicians. The duration of the course varies between 4 months and 1 year, and costs lie between 2000 and 26000 Maldivian Rufiyaa per month. With these courses, the MIT is the leading institute in the Maldives, training service technicians on the safe handling and application of natural refrigerants in the RAC sector. …
Buenas prácticasProject: SuperSmart: EU-wide energy efficient and climate-friendly supermarkets
SuperSmart is an EU-wide project advancing the use of more energy efficient refrigeration, heating and cooling appliances in Europe’s supermarkets by addressing all stakeholders involved in driving the uptake of more climate-friendly food retail stores. SuperSmart has 3 main objectives: to remove non-technological barriers to efficient heating & cooling in the EU food retails sector, training to raise the expertise level for energy-friendly supermarkets among (non-) technical staff, and to support the introduction of a new EU Ecolabel for food retails stores. The project is funded by the EU under the Horizon 220 Innovation Framework Programme. The consortium consists of 9 European partners from the fields of research, analysis, training, dissemination and network-building. …
Buenas prácticasProject: An analysis of the emissions and costs of electrical trailer cooling during rest periods
Under the European transport network (TEN-T) Programme, NomadPower is developing a power supply network for temperature-controlled transport on parking lots. Long-distance transport trailers use diesel to cool their goods for resting periods of nine hours or more, during which it would be possible to connect to an electric power supply. Around 95% of cooling trailers are equipped with an electric standby refrigeration option, but this is only used during long periods of (un)loading where a power supply is available. Providing a power supply at service station parking lots will enable the potential to use electric standby mode instead of diesel during extended rest periods. The study on environmental and cost benefits by CE Delft revealed that in Europe alone, 50-100 million hours of diesel consumption at service station parking lots can be replaced by electricity supply. This would save 130-260 million liters of diesel and 290-580 kilo tons of CO2, which corresponds to the annual emissions of 2,700-5,400 long-haul trucks. …
Buenas prácticasLiterature: The Cold Link Africa
The Cold Link Africa is a bimonthly newspaper focusing on all aspects of refrigeration, distributed to the entire South African refrigeration industry. It is a product of Interact Media Defined, one of South Africa’s leading multi-media magazine publishers. The first edition of the Cold Link (Africa) was published 30 years ago. The newspaper covers the cold chain from producer to consumer, and includes regular features, industry news, global events as well as policies and regulations. As such, it is of interest to all consumers, suppliers and contractors in the refrigeration industry. The readership of The Cold Link Africa made evident that the South African refrigeration industry requires coordination between all stakeholders of the cold chain. This gave birth to the South African Refrigeration Distribution Association (SARDA) in 1990. …
Buenas prácticasPolicymaking: The Natural Voice- A global call to reduce greenhouse gases by natural refrigerants
Introduced by Shecco in 2009, the Natural Voice is a global statement open to industry, associations, non-profit organizations and individuals supporting the potential of natural refrigerants in replacing potent greenhouse gases. At present, the Natural Voice has 109 signatories from a range of sectors and industries. The statement will be presented to national governments and international climate negotiators in the near future to build the basis for developing natural refrigerant initiatives around the world. The Natural Voice demands national governments to remove (inter)national trade barriers and to revise safety standards, codes and legislation that restrict the use of natural refrigerants without merit. Furthermore, it calls upon national governments to provide (non-) financial support for the research and promotion of natural refrigerants, and to facilitate the technology transfer from developed to developing countries. …
Buenas prácticasLiterature: ACCELERATE, the magazine about natural refrigerants-based technology
Published by Shecco, the Accelerate magazine is written for and about the most progressive business leaders working with natural refrigerant technologies in the HVAC&R sectors. The free monthly or quarterly magazine is available for the North American, European, Japanese and Australian market. As the first online and print magazine for and about business leaders in natural refrigerant-based technologies, Accelerate reports on innovations, markets and technological trends. The magazine features stories and detailed analysis by consumers, suppliers, regulators and other key stakeholders of natural refrigerant-based technologies. …

Buenas prácticasTraining and Education
Promoting the use of hydrocarbons through training and education. The SIT leads an on-going project that offers rebates for households replacing their old CFC-12 and R134a refrigerators, with new, more energy efficient hydrocarbon refrigerators. The regular training of technicians from industry and private owned businesses is also part of the SIT's responsibility. The emphasis during the trainings is on good practices in refrigeration and air conditioning, including the safe use and application of natural refrigerants, as well as proper refrigerant recovery and retrofitting. …
